And Another Memoir

It's A Shocker

Is it just me, or is everybody in politics writing a memoir these days? Maybe it's just the eight year span between presidents that has allowed America to forget just how much literature is produced within the first few years after a president leaves office. George H.W. Bush wrote a more specified account of a few hand chosen events during his life and presidency. After "Billary" left office Bill Clinton's My Life and Hillary's Living History: Hillary Clinton (such a self serving title if I do say so myself) , soon became bestsellers and sold more than a million copies each. Now after the second Bush Administration has left office we are again being hit by a tidal wave of pages and ink, with the newest edition to the list being the Former First Lady Laura Bush's memoir entitled Speaking from the Heart.

When Wall Street Ate Main Street

The Bull

In 2008, simply put, Wall Street ate Main Street. House were foreclosed upon left and right, massive layoffs rippled throughout the country, and big business was deemed 'too big to fail' and was fed until fat upon the American tax payer's dollars. Now, almost two years later with unemployment rates still hovering at or near 10 percent and with little of the Wall Street Bailout money having any effect on everyday America, we want to ensure that this never happens again. We have looked into the bulls horns once; we will not do so again. Yet for the second time this week Senate republicans halted the democrats Wall Street Reform Bill before it could reach open debate. Democrats cry 'foul' and scream 'obstructionist' at the their republican counterparts (and even one of their own). Is it just 'the politics of no' reasserting itself in the petty politics to which we have grown all to accustom, or is it something more?

Definitely Not Another Fence

June 2006

In 2006, I spent nearly the entire month of June in the beautiful state of Arizona. It was a lot like Indiana: beautiful, growing, and Republican. Yet, it was the differences that captured my attention: the mountains (I could see the San Tan Mountain Range from my window), the desert and all its fascinating creatures, but most shocking of all was the sheer ignorance I had to the issues faced by its residents. Having been born and raised in Northwest Indiana, the closest I ever came to wondering about immigration was when a Macedonian boy joined my second grade class. In Arizona, wondering about immigration is a daily topic, and as the new immigration bill, signed into law last week by AZ Governor Jan Brewer, illustrates, the tensions are beginning to boil over.

It's Coming...

Bush Breaks His Silence

President George W. Bush's memoir, Decision Points, has finally been set a release date. Crown Publishers announced today that the former president's book will be released exactly one week after the November Midterm Elections. Sources close to 'Dubya' claim that almost every day since leaving office, George W. Bush has been reflecting on his life, his presidency, and his legacy and has compounded a work highlighting fourteen of the most important decisions he has throughout his life.

Still the Party of Lincoln?

Lincoln and the GOP

Republican candidates, incumbent or otherwise, will often paint their party with the inspiring and honest face of the first Republican president, Abraham Lincoln. Yet does the Republican Party of today still represent "The Party of Lincoln?" Do our current republican officials even share the same ideology of one of their most cherished members? Let's do a quick review of the Republican Party of old (The Party of Lincoln) and compare that to the current GOP platform.

"Say What???"

The Three Worst Words

I know what you're all thinking, but I promise you, your wrong. I am not referring to the common everyday vulgar language that has been ingrained in our society. No, I am not referring to racial or cultural slurs either. These three words are truly the most powerful, and awful words known to the United States vocabulary. In other nations these words have toppled monarchs, emperors, and tyrants; these words have truly made there presence known throughout history, and it seems now that American politics is doomed to follow the same path.

In Review: Going Rogue

In Review

This is the section of the blog where I review books published by prominent politicians on both sides of the aisle. As its premiere I could not think of a better opening than a review of Going Rogue by Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK).

Freshman Year: Obama vs. Bush

The Buildup

Yes Mr. President, it does indeed seem as though the nation who once thought you a fool, is feeling some remorse. A recent Gallup poll conducted this month reveals that in the hypothetical situation of an election between former President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama would be statistically tied. The poll found that 48% of those questioned would reelect President Obama while 46% would choose President Bush instead. How is it that one of the most unpopular presidents in our country's history could possibly beat one of the most popularly elected presidents in modern times?

A "Pure" Republican?

Recently the Republican National Committee was presented with, and concurrently denied, a proposal that would have offered a standard for the type of candidates to whom the RNC could provide financial support. Dubbed a "purity test", the measure would have mandated that any possible candidates must adhere to at least seven of the ten planks of the proposed platform.
